The Atal Utkrisht School Scheme was launched by the Government of Uttarakhand in 2018 with the aim of improving the quality of education in government schools, especially in rural and remote areas, by converting them into model CBSE-affiliated institutions. Named in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scheme initially selected two schools from each block (totaling around 190 schools) to be upgraded in terms of infrastructure, faculty training, and teaching methodology. These schools were provided with smart classrooms, science and computer labs, libraries, clean toilets, and digital learning tools.
